If you want to change one thing about yourself – be happier, lose weight, make more money, exercise 5 days a week, be kinder to your kids, etc. - do you know the most powerful, surest way to achieve it? The good news is that this initial step doesn’t require you to give up ice cream, get out of your chair, or even make 5 more cold calls! It is called managing your mind - which can be done anytime from anywhere and doesn’t cost you a cent!!!!!
Henry Ford put it most simply: “Whether you think you CAN, or think you CAN’T, you are RIGHT.” He knew that what we think frequently enough becomes our belief - which then becomes our reality. Our brain, while our greatest asset, is also our greatest liability because it will seek evidence to prove that our beliefs are true. You have heard of “self-fulfilling prophesy”, correct? This is the same concept.
Therefore, changing your MINDSET is critical to getting the things in life you say you want. If you want more money and are in sales, changing “I hate selling and am no good at it” to “I am a great salesperson who loves helping their clients” definitely improves your close rate. Thinking “I am always going to be a fat person so I might as well eat the whole carton of ice cream” does NOT help you lose weight. Thinking “I am in control of what and how much I put in my mouth” gets much better results!
Look at places in your life where you are not performing well. I guarantee that you have thought blocks and limiting beliefs around the topic. Become conscious of the negative thought. Create some replacement ones for when you catch yourself saying “can’t, won’t, I’m not good enough,” etc. Being realistic improves your odds of success too. For instance, if you need to lose 100 pounds, it could be overwhelming to think “I need to lose 100 pounds in the next 6 months”. Come up with some intermediate, process goals such as “I will not eat anything after 8:00 p.m. this week”. Think it until you believe – and then DO IT! Another tip for stacking the odds of success in your favor, is to make the thoughts positive. Instead of saying, “I am not going to drink soda”, your thought could be “I am a person who drinks water because of its health benefits”.
At first, you will be amazed at how many self-limiting beliefs exist in your brain! No wonder you aren’t living the life you want! Make a game of ferreting each one out and replacing it with a thought which gets you closer to your goal. It does work!!!!
