What You Can Create with Resiliency and Belief
I am fascinated by what makes some people keep moving forward no matter their trials. Somehow, they seem to be able to harness an inner “grit”.
My guest, Catherine “Cat” Schuller is a great example of grit – she doesn’t let anything stop her from living her life to the fullest. In my experience with her, I see her as “irrepressible”. Besides an innate belief in herself, she is a poster child for resilience. People with this attribute are quick to adapt, embrace change, and see adversity as a chance to learn and grow.
Cat overcame the odds of being a plus-size model and turned them into an a successful career! She coped with her husband’s unexpected death by becoming his “legacy advocate”. In addition, she still finds time to play the violin, create and manufacture jewelry, run fashion shows, mentor, and absolutely refuses to be unhappy.
When asked about her secret of thriving, Cat discussed trusting yourself and not feeling like you have to fit into a certain mold. If fact, one of her (few) regrets is that she didn’t believe that she was good enough to be on Saturday Night Live – when the show solicited her! She did listen to her inner voice about not fitting into the Size 2, Twiggy-like body for modeling. Instead, she decided to just be herself – and still managed to have a contract with Ford Modeling agency! She parlayed this into two books, work as an successful image consultant, and more.
