The Gifts of a Reset
Juggling multiple projects and developing content had left me somewhat depleted, and I realized that I needed a change in order to regain my creativity and enthusiasm. Therefore, I scheduled an overnight break where I couldn’t be awakened by my fur babies, didn’t see the laundry piling up, had no meal planning responsibilities, etc.
For 24 hours I sat by a lake, listened to the gentle lapping of the water, gazed at the ever-changing light over the mountains, watched hummingbirds dart about, smelled new blooms, petted a soft dog, and ate fresh food. I also concentrated on just being (not doing!). and being totally present to my surroundings. I was amazed at how alive I felt and how attuned to my environment my senses were. I acknowledged how much I don’t see, hear, and taste in my daily life when I am dashing from place to place just to get things done.
When I need to regain perspective and jumpstart creativity, I remove myself from my normal surroundings, “get out of my head”, and in touch with my surroundings. I focus on being present and quieting my mind (frequently, I will meditate or let my mind wander unfettered by “I must”, and “I have to”).
When I return to work and “real life”, I am calm, creative, and energized. My To Do list no longer seems insurmountable!
